Should Euthanasia Be Allowed or Not

There has long been a debate of whether euthanasia should be legalized or not, and there are many people who hold strong on both sides of the issue. My thoughts on the issue –it should be legalized. Euthanasia is oftentimes used for patients who are terminally ill. They have but two options in life, and one of those is currently not illegal. Those choices- to die a slow and miserable death or to have someone assist them with a painless end of life through euthanasia. Rather than allow someone to sit and suffer when they have wishes to go ahead and die makes little sense, especially when they are in so much pain and have but a short time to live.

The Opposition

Those who oppose euthanasia being legalized state there are other medical treatments and options that may be available. However, by the point in time when a person wants euthanasia administered they are already past the point of being helped with any kind of treatment. Other people do not want to go through the pain, the hopes and the what ifs.

Legalization is right

Euthanasia should be legalized because it is the choice of the person. It is not something that everyone with a terminal illness is given, they are choosing to go ahead and end their life rather than die slowly and in pain and hurting. Why deny them this choice? There are no words that can describe what going through a terminal illness can do to a person. Not only physically, but mentally as well. If they are in sound mind, euthanasia is a choice and an option that should be given to those who want it.

While there will be a lot of debate of euthanasia and whether it should be legalized, there are both people who oppose and support it. With my research and findings I am someone that supports giving the terminally ill their choice and their rights. If they do not want to suffer, why make them suffer? Also consider the fact that some say medical treatment and intervention could save this person’s life. Consider the emotional trauma they are enduring. Also consider the wishes of the family. We go above and beyond to ensure that we suffice to our loved ones final wishes. Why should this be any different? Look at the facts and then weigh the pros and cons for yourself.
